U.S.-spec Toyota Corolla hot hatchback is coming to America, reportedly with a drivetrain of the GR Yaris.
Japan’s Best Car source informs that Toyota will reveal a so-called Corolla Sport GRMN (not GR!) after the company launches the GR Yaris later this year.
The hot Toyota Yaris is for the European and Asian markets. North American customers will have the Corolla in the form of a performance hatchback instead as the only alternative.
This car is said to inherit a new 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine of the GR Yaris, with up to 268 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. The mill will be supposedly mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive.
We’ve heard the next-generation Toyota C-HR will get a GR version with the similar powertrain. It should arrive in 2022.
Toyota itself gives no comments on its future Gazoo Racing models. No official schedule, no technical details. There isn’t any certainty as for the componets the hot Corolla will borrow, and the timeline it will follow.
