Why the Kia Stinger Is a Great Option in the Luxury Small Car Class

Production of the Kia Stinger liftback comes to an end. To pay homage to the model, Kia introduces a limited-run Tribute Edition.

The Kia Stinger has been in production since 2017, and the 2023 model year is the final for the car.

Despite the fact the Stinger is a great option in the luxury small car segment, its sales are weak, and other Kia models outsell it.

For example, the electric Kia EV6 has already outsold the Kia Stinger almost thrice. The latter remains an underrated niche car, and that’s a pity because the Stinger deserves consideration.

A Luxury Car Without the Luxury-Car Price Tag

When it comes to performance, technologies, and comfort, the Kia sporty car is not much inferior to competitors, like the Genesis G70, Audi A5 Sportback, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, or the BMW 4 Series Grand Coupe, but costs significantly less.

The 2023 Kia Stinger’s base MSRP of $36,590 is one of the lowest starting prices in the luxury small car class.

The Stinger’s advantages include punchy turbocharged engines, many standard tech and safety features for the price, an easy-to-use infotainment system, sure-footed handling, and ample cargo space. Also, Kia offers a long 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for the model.

On the downside, the car has subpar fuel economy with either of its two engines. Though the front seats are comfortable, the rear seating is cramped for adults. The interior looks upscale, but the quality of materials is fairly mediocre: you’ll meet more hard plastic here than in a BMW or Audi equivalent.

To sum up, the Kia Stinger is practical and fun to drive. Its below-average price makes it a very good value proposition. Few vehicles offer the same combination of usability, performance, and luxury, indeed.

But Kia is drifting to the all-electric future, and the ICE-powered Stinger turns out of place here.

Kia Stinger Tribute Edition

This version is based on the Kia Stinger 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 GT specification and will be available only in 1000 units.

The distinct features include a new Moonscape matte gray exterior paint and a black finish for exterior mirrors, Brembo brake calipers, and 19-inch wheels.
