The 2023 Honda Civic Type R, a high-performance, 5-door-hatchback-only modification of the popular model, will be unveiled on July 20, 2022.
The arrival of the all-new Honda Civic Type R in theory should revive demand for the model, but we need to understand that a hot version is not for everyone. Moreover, it will cost decently more than a regular model: expect a price of around $40K.
Last month, the Honda Civic’s sales in the USA fell more than any other model of the brand – 9,633 units in June 2022 vs 32,677 units in June 2021(by 70.5%). This year, as of July 1, Honda sold 70,335 Civic vehicles, and this is not bad compared to the sales of other Hondas or models of other brands.
Nevertheless, compared to last-year sales (152,956 units), there is a significant drop in demand – by 54 percent, according to goodcarbadcar.
What the Civic Type R Offers to Customers
A chassis code of FL5 is confirmed for the Type R meaning a more aggressive design with a revamped front and rear fascia, a bigger rear wing, 20-inch wheels in performance tires, and other aerodynamic details.
Such underpinning is good for all-wheel-drive layout, but Honda has not dared to it, though it promises that the model will be the quickest front-wheel-drive production vehicle around the Nurburgring.
The carmaker offers at least 5 colors for the hatchback including a combination of Championship White for the exterior with black and red for the interior. Other choices are Rallye Red, Sonic Gray Pearl, Boost Blue Pearl, and Crystal Black Pearl.
A six-speed manual gearbox remains to the delight of fans of the three-pedal shuffle, but a dual-clutch automatic transmission will be likely newly available.
As rumored, there will be a power boost to 330 horsepower for the car’s 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that currently makes 306 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. These figures will put the next Civic Type R on par with the Toyota GR Corolla or the Volkswagen Golf R.
The car’s cabin hosts the latest infotainment system running through a 9.0-inch touchscreen packed with modern standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
The manufacturer has recently announced the official debut date for the 2023 Honda Civic Type R – July 20, 2022. Honda may limit the production numbers of this variant making it a more exclusive option.
