What We Know about 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R

Ford confirms a powerful V8 engine for the 2022 F-150 Raptor R coming later this year.

We don’t know exactly yet, but it is probably about a truck-adapted version of the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator engine delivering 760 hp and 625 lb-ft in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

For comparison: the direct competitor – 2021 Ram 1500 TRX – is powered by a 6.2-liter 16-valve, supercharged Hellcat engine producing 702 hp and 650 lb-ft.

Ford’s all-aluminum, DOHC 32-valve V8 has smaller displacement and fewer torque figures, but the engine’s useful life is expected to be longer than Hellcat’s.

The new Ford F-150 Raptor comes with an industry-leading 37-inch tire package. The 37-inch tires allow 13.1 inches of ground clearance (vs TRX’s 11.8 in).

The Raptor’s approach / breakover / departure angles are 33.2 / 24.4 / 24.9 degrees versus the Ram 1500 TRX’s 30.2 / 21.9 / 23.5 degrees.

The range-topping Ford F-150 Raptor R is aimed to compete with the hard-core Ram 1500 TRX.

Expect the Raptor R will have an aggressive bodywork and an opulent interior (upscale trims, contrast stitching, an all-digital gauge cluster, a large infotainment screen), as well as performance goodies like Ram’s Performance Pages app, launch-control program, etc.

Neither hybrid nor all-electric Ford F-150 Raptor is in the cards.

No. We designed and engineered Raptor to be Raptor,

the new Raptor’s program manager, Tony Greco said.
