Volvo XC40 Has Almost Reached 100,000 Sales

The smallest Volvo crossover has become the brand’s undisputed leader in Europe

2022 was a successful year for the Volvo XC40 in the European car market. In December alone, 14,000 buyers purchased the crossover. According to JATO Dynamics, 98,145 units were sold.

The result of the XC40 can be considered quite decent among the main competitors. For example, Audi sold 98,944 Q3s (including the Q3 Sportback).  The total figure for the BMW X1 and BMW X2 was 90,963 units, while the Mercedes-Benz GLA was bought by 56,648 customers.

However, more important, in our opinion, is the absolute leadership of the Volvo XC40 in the model range of the brand. The all-time best-selling Volvo XC60 SUV is only the second today: 65,600 vehicles were sold last year. It is also a nice result, but far from leadership.

As for the rest of the Volvo models, the flagship XC90 SUV had 26,554 sales.  25,515 buyers chose the Volvo S60 (V60), 12,256 Europeans bought the Volvo S90 (V90). By the way, the demand for Volvo’s passenger cars is decreasing.

Thus, the Volvo XC40 has good prospects in Europe, especially considering the availability of a fully electric version – the XC40 Recharge.
