Volvo Cars has published a teaser of a new product on its Facebook page. The company is going to unveil it at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, which opens in a week. What is it?
Volvo Cars can become the first carmaker without a car at the coming event in California. The picture demonstrates a thing that looks like a smartphone in the cabin of one of the Swedish brand models. There is an inscription on its screen saying “THIS IS NOT A PHONE”. Seems mysterious, doesn’t it?
Probably Volvo will present not a car model, but some new phone-based technology or mobile application for gadgets to provide additional functions for interaction with the vehicle. Few companies have such offerings.
It is worth noting that currently Volvo is involved not only in development of mobile technologies, but autopilots too. The Volvo 360c Concept proves this. It lacks the controls and serves as a substitute for airplanes on short trips.
The Swedish automaker promised before that the new generation Volvo XC90 crossover would get the Level 4 autopilot. This technology allows unmanned driving and needs a person only in difficult situations.
