In 2018, Volvo Cars set a new record for global sales. For the first time in its history the company surpassed 600,000 cars having sold 642,253 units, by 12% more than in 2017. The carmaker has achieved the record level of global sales for the fifth consecutive year.
There was a high demand for new lineup of the brand, in particular for the XC SUVs in key markets: Europe, the United States and China.
Sales increased by 6% to 317,838 cars in the European market last year. The new V60 and XC40 were the best-selling models.
Sales in the USA grew by 21% (98,263 units). The most popular model was the Volvo XC60. The updated S60 was launched in the U.S. in 2018, which can also boost demand in 2019.
Sales in China increased by 14% in 2018 compared to 2017 and amounted to 130,593 cars. The highest demand was for locally assembled XC60 and S90 models.
The Volvo XC60 was the most popular model of the brand in the world last year, followed by the XC90 and then by the V40 / V40 Cross Country.
The Volvo XC40 and XC90 SUVs won the Best Buy 2019 from Consumer Guide® Automotive. The latter has been awarded for the third time in the last four years.
In addition, the XC40 received the Supreme Winner of the 2018 Women’s World Car of the Year award. The XC40 is Volvo’s first model titled as the Car of the Year in Europe.
The Volvo 360c unmanned vehicle concept got the Best of the Year reward in the “Automotive Innovations” category, according to Interior Design (international magazine).
