In 2019, the Volkswagen Tiguan overtook the Nissan Qashqai leading in recent years in the European market, and became the bestseller in the compact SUV segment.
Last year, 225,000 Europeans bought the Tiguan. This is 6% more than a year earlier, plus it took the first place in the ranking of the most popular compact crossovers on the continent.
The Volkswagen Tiguan outperformed the Nissan Qashqai, but not only because demand for the Japanese crossover fell, but because buyers really appreciated the Tiguan’s highlights: close-to-premium equipment, modern safety technologies, a choice of configurations, availability of 7-seater modification.
As for the Qashqai, it was bought by 219,000 men. Sales dropped by 5%, but it took the second place in Europe with a decent outrun from rivals.
The Europe’s TOP 5 most popular compact SUVs also included the Peugeot 3008, Ford Kuga and the Hyundai Tucson.
2, 356,000 crossovers were sold in Europe in 2019, which is 11% more than a year before.
