A new teaser of the upcoming next-generation Volkswage Passat has been published by VW USA on its Twitter page. The carmaker will show a version for the US car market at the NAIAS 2019 in Detroit in several days.
Volkswagen brings quite a few updates to both North American and European Passats, the Americans will be the first to receive the new model.
Volkswagen USA has reported on its Twitter that “in 2018, over 4.25 million sedans were sold in the U.S.”. Its intriguing phrase hints on good sales this year.
The teaser image shows a 19-inch wheel with ContiPro Continental tire, which probably belongs to the R-Line sports version. Other Passats will get 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels.
We shouldn’t await significant changes under the skin: the new car retains the same platform and 2.0-liter gasoline 4-cylinder turbo motor upgraded to deliver 174 hp and 207 lbft (280 Nm) of torque. The only transmission variant will be a six-speed automatic one.
The company considered the MQB architecture to be too expensive to switch to.
The new 2020 Volkswagen Passat will be assembled at the plant in Chatanuga, Tennessee, where the previous generation sedans and Volkswagen Atlas crossovers are made too.
