The ID.5 GTX is Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV coupé set to debut on September 7 at the 2021 IAA Munich Motor Show.
The international exhibition will take place on September 6-12, 2021 at Mësse – Am Messeturm – 81829 Munich. There Volkswagen will showcase the ID.5 GTX as a disguised near-production concept.
The model is based on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB). It features an elegant, sporty exterior design with fluid lines, short overhangs, big wheels, IQ.Light LED matrix headlamps generating an intelligently controlled high beam, 3D-design LED rear lights, illuminated honeycomb elements, and light strips.
A dual-engine four-wheel-drive system combines with a large lithium-ion battery between the axles. The latter provides a driving range of 497 km (309 miles).
This all-electric SUV coupe is the second GTX model. It can get over-the-air updates and adapts the Car2X technology. The GTX abbreviation represents the brand’s new athleticism and continues the tradition of the GTI, GTD, GTE models.
The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX will reach Europe’s dealerships next year. Expect to see it in North America and other markets as well.
At present, Volkswagen has one ID model on sale in the USA – the ID.4 crossover. It sells rather well (5,757 units in Q2 2021), given the relative unpopularity of European brands and electric vehicles in this country.
