Volkswagen Discontinues Golf TSI for America

Volkswagen’s Golf GTI and Golf R will be still available in the USA as the 2022 models.

Volkswagen ended up production of the Golf TSI at its plant in Puebla, Mexico. The current inventory will last until the end of this year.

Only higher-end Golfs, such as the German-made eighth-generation R and GTI, will be on offer in the U.S. market.

Unlike Europeans, American buyers have not been enthusiastic about the base Volkswagen Golf hatchback, and preferred faster, more potent versions (and more expensive, accordingly).

Nevertheless, over 2.5 million US customers have bought a Golf since it first was introduced in December 1974.

The VW Golf starts at $24,190 and still offers a manual gearbox, which is a rarity on new cars.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and R should reach America’s shores in the fall of 2021.
