Land Rover is testing the updated Discovery Sport. Car paparazzi could shoot a pre-series sample of the brand’s most popular SUV for the first time. If the external changes are insignificant, then availability of the hybrid powertrain is intriguing.
The new-generation Land Rover Discovery Sport will arrive not soon – next decade. The automaker transfers the SUV to a new PTA platform and, generally speaking, it is expected to be an all-new vehicle.
Restyling is another thing. The updated version of the current Discovery Sport has been already undergoing pre-series tests on public roads and will be due in 2019.
The prototype is almost completely disguised. We don’t know if the model gets fresh body panels, but new bumpers and radiator grille can be well seen now. However, significant external changes are not expected.
The images do not show the external signs of the plug-in hybrid system, but the spy photographers believe it is installed on the prototype.
The fact the refreshed Discovery Sport may have a plug-in hybrid version is not a surprise. The British carmaker has long been developing green vehicles.
The Discovery Sport is the best-selling Land Rover’s car. So, the company will not hold off its version arrival to the market after intermediate restyling. The facelifted crossover will likely go on sale next spring.
