Honda has updated the Civic Type R for 2020. The car was showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon that took place on January 10-12.
The carmaker improved the Civic’s performance, aerodynamics, suspension (revised dampers), a braking system (new pads and rotors), refreshed exterior and interior, added the Honda Sensing driver assistance and safety suite as standard, as well as the Active Sound Control, which is new for 2020.
Exterior changes include a new bigger front grille opening to better engine cooling. The 2020 model got a new exclusive Boost Blue version.
Inside expect to meet a new steering wheel of Alcantara leather and a new shifter.
The same turbo engine – a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder one – delivers 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque to front wheel through a 6-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential.
Three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – are available.
The 2020 Honda Civic Type R will reach U.S. dealer showrooms later this winter. The 2020 Honda Civic costs $19,750-28,850 in the United States. The new Type R’s price will be announced closer to its market launch.
