America’s first plug-in hybrid version of the Kia Sportage has been revealed.
The 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV based on the latest, 5th-generation model made its American debut on February 8, 2022. The SUV offers outstanding efficiency with a 32-mile electric range.
It rides on the N3 platform, provides best-in-class rear legroom – 39.5 inches, and rear cargo space – 34.5 cu.-ft.
X-Line Trim
The Sportage plug-in hybrid is offered in two design-oriented trim levels, X-Line and X-Line Prestige, both with all-wheel-drive. They have 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, unique bumpers with a satin chrome surround. Windows, side mirrors, and a roof rack are finished in gloss black too.
The SUV has a Tiger Nose grille with а floating design, and boomerang-like daytime running lights. Its notch-shaped LED taillights connected by a thin black graphic come standard. The cabin features a futuristic driver cockpit that comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
Available technologies include a 360-degree Surround-View Monitor with a three-dimensional view, a Harman/Kardon premium audio system, Kia Connect services, such as over-the-air map updates, connected routing, immobilization, stolen vehicle tracking, Kia Access app.
Powertrain
The 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is powered by a 1.6-liter 177-hp turbo-four engine in pair with a 66.9-kW electric motor and a 13.8-kWh lithium-polymer battery. A six-speed automatic transmission with selectable drive modes is standard, as are the Downhill Brake Control and Integrated Electronic Brake features. There is a 7.2-kW high-efficiency onboard charger with a power density of 1.53 kW/ℓ.
On Sale
The model is scheduled to go on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2022. Kia will announce its pricing closer to the on-sale date. At the same time, EPA-rated fuel economy figures will be known.
