At the 2018 LA Auto Show, PST Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled the world’s first Electric Adventure Vehicles: the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV a day after.
Both vehicles are really amazing. Being 100% electric, they come with three battery pack choices – 105 kWh, 135 kWh and 180 kWh, providing a driving range from 230, 300 and 400 miles (370, 483 and 644 km) accordingly.
As claimed, the powertrain includes four independent 200-hp motors and all-wheel drive, which develop combined 14,000 Nm of torque. The total output depending on the battery capacity is 408-, 764- and 710-hp respectively.
The vehicles accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 sec at the slowest and 3.2 sec at the fastest, and gain the top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).
The Rivian R1T is offered as a 5-seater, the R1S will be available in 5- or 7-seat versions. The pickup’s overall dimensions are 5,475 x 2,015 x 1,815 mm, its wheelbase is 3,450 mm.
The SUV is 5,040 mm long, 2,015 mm wide and 1,820 mm high, its wheelbase is 3,075 mm. The R1T has an off-road ground clearance of 360 mm, the Rivian R1S’s clearance is 5 mm more.
There is a significant payload of 800 kg for the pickup and even more for the SUV – 820 kg.
The newcomers from Rivian feature a versatile storage space, a rugged, highly functional premium interior. The exterior highlights are ‘stadium’ style headlamps and a daytime running light wrapping around the entire front end. The taillights also extends all the way across the rear.
Other notable feature is a highly sophisticated suspension system. Rivian’s safety systems and body-structure design are such as targeted to achieve 5-Star safety ratings.
The truck comes to market first in late 2020, afterwards the R1S arrives in 2021. Prices will start at $61,500 (after Federal Tax credit). Customers can already make pre-orders.
