Many longtime fans and owners of the brand continue thinking that four-cylinder Boxster or Cayman are not real Porsches. They prefer flat-six models.
The company, we remind, switched the 718 Boxster and Cayman range to smaller turbocharged four-cylinder engines in 2016 as part of its new strategy.
It helped these cars survive. Besides, Porsche could open the Chinese market, Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of the 718 model line believes.
He says Porsche is number one in China for years in terms of volume, compensating for other markets around the world.
Interestingly, thanks to the 718s, the carmaker now has a younger target group in that country – 30-year old women.
Nevertheless, Porsche has returned the six-cylinder engine again with the 2020 GTS and GT4. The manufacturer wants to regain interest in the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models in traditional markets such as Europe, North America, the UK, Australia.
