Mercedes-Benz E-Class has debuted in its next, sixth generation.
The E-Class is a key model for the Stuttgart-based automaker, so Mercedes developed the new iteration with particular care. The 2024 E-Class sedan has got extended functionality and become even more efficient, eco-friendly, and luxurious. Many components of the car are made of recycled and renewable raw materials.
Exterior
The vehicle codenamed W124 remains recognizable but looks sleeker. It has a long hood, a short front overhang, a sloping roofline, a greenhouse that is set well back, retractable door handles, and 0.87 inch longer wheelbase.
There is no molding, antenna on the roof, and air ducts in the wings. All this allows the E-Class to achieve an aerodynamic index of 0.23.
The new car’s 3D-designed grille is connected to headlights with a black panel reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models. Customers can opt for an illuminated grille surround. The taillights have the brand’s 3-point star inside.
Interior
The interior of the new-generation sedan has become more spacious and comfortable. Its equipment includes three screens: a digital instrument panel, an MBUX multimedia system, and a display for the front passenger.
The last one is for watching dynamic content – TV or video streaming during a journey, while the driver is protected from distraction due to an advanced camera-based filtering concept. Zoom, TikTok, and Angry Birds are available through multimedia with an even smarter voice assistant.
One of many interesting functions is ATTENTION ASSIST which detects signs of microsleep in conjunction with the camera in the 3D driver display. Besides, the sedan received maximum packages of driver assistance systems and safety assistants.
The Digital Vehicle Key is now available for the iPhone and Apple Watch.
With the help of new Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation, occupants in the new Mercedes E-Class can hear, feel and see pieces of music and sounds from films or apps.
Engines
All sixth-generation Mercedes E-Class versions are hybrids: three mild-hybrid ones supported by an integrated starter generator (adds 17 kW), and three plug-in hybrid variants with an electric output of 95 kW (129 hp).
The new car’s gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines belong to the brand’s Family of Modular Engines (FAME). Their horsepower ranges from 197 to 381.
The U.S. market will see E 350 4MATIC and E450 4MATIC models. The 9G-TRONIC transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system have been further developed and improved.
Sales
Production and sales of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will begin this summer. The prices will be announced later. A version in the station wagon body style will be available as well.
