Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Joins the Lineup for 2022 Model Year

The Toyota 4Runner lineup expands with a TRD Sport version for the 2022 model year. The TRD Sport grade complements TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trims, adds style and some road-worthy upgrades.

An exclusive feature of the model to enhance on-road handling is a Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System ( X-REAS). It automatically adjusts the damping force of shock absorbers when driving over bumpy surfaces or cornering.

The TRD Sport is based on the SR5 grade, and is available in two drive variants – two-wheel-drive or part-time four-wheel-drive with a two-speed transfer case. Its ground clearance is 9 inches with 2WD and 9.9 inches with AWD.

The SUV brings new machine-faced 20-inch wheels with Dark Gray accents, a full-sized spare tire. Unique exterior features include color-keyed accents, a signature TRD-style hood scoop, black roof rails, and a front spoiler.

All 2022 4Runners got LED low and high beams, fog lamps.

In the cabin, there are SofTex-trimmed seats adding heating of front seats and unique gray contrast stitching, TRD stitched logos on headrests, TRD Sport floor mats, a standard TRD shift knob.

An 8-inch multimedia touchscreen display comes as standard. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, hands-free phone compatibility is available, as well as a USB media port, advanced voice recognition, music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology, SiriusXM trial, Connected Services.

As with other models, the 4Runner comes with Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty, ToyotaCare, standard Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) safety, and driver-assist suite.

A 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine powers the vehicle mated to a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission. Peak torque is 278 lb.-ft. The transmission includes a sequential shift mode for manual shifting.  

The Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport has a standard integrated tow hitch receiver and wiring harness. A maximum towing capacity is  5,000 pounds with a maximum tongue weight of 500 pounds.
