A notice sent out to Toyota dealers in Japan states a manual gearbox could be released to the local market by October 2022 in the next, 2023 Toyota GR Supra.
It is not known whether the manufacturer will be limited only by the home market of Japan, or the option will be available in other markets too. The information itself about adding a 6-speed manual transmission to the Toyota GR Supra is not official.
The current model utilizes ZF’s 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission which is considered the best automatic transmission in the world or at least one of the best. Nevertheless, there are always people who prefer a stick shift. So, a production version of the manual Toyota GR Supra makes sense.
If it is ever launched, the 6-speed manual gearbox comes with the Supra’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine, while its 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit will likely continue pairing the automatic transmission.
Toyota will produce the updated lineup of the GR Supra, including the manual variant, at the Magna Steyr factory in Graz, Austria, where the company also assembles the BMW Z4.
