A high-performance Toyota GR Corolla will make its debut very soon – this Thursday, according to an official announcement by the automaker.
Toyota Gazoo Racing will unveil an all-new model this Thursday on Vimeo on March 31 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time or on April 1 at 3:30 a.m. Central European Time. This is about the Toyota GR Corolla – a hot version, likely in a hatchback body style, of the brand’s global best-seller, with sporty visual upgrades.
Toyota’s teasers show off a fender vent, a “GR” badge that’s is the abbreviation of Gazoo Racing, and a “GR-Four” badge hinting at all-wheel drive.
The new GR Corolla will presumably share its drive system and a turbocharged 1.6-liter 3-cylinder 257-hp engine with the rally-inspired Toyota GR Yaris.
Expect the engine to pair either a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard or a dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option.
The Toyota GR Corolla will enter a competitive environment where it faces such worthy rivals as the Subaru WRX, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Honda Civic Type S, Hyundai Veloster N.
