The first-ever 2023 Toyota GR Corolla hatchback made its official debut on March 31, 2022. The model will reach dealerships later this year, with the pricing to be announced closer to the availability date.
The new Toyota GR Corolla comes equipped with a lightweight, compact 1.6-liter 3-cylinder direct/port-injected turbo engine that produces 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Peak torque is achievable at 3000-5500 rpm, while maximal horsepower comes at 6500 rpm.
The engine is mated to a manual gearbox and the brand’s rally developed GR-Four All-Wheel-Drive drivetrain with a choice of 60-40, 50-50, or 30-70 power distribution. The car’s unique triple exhaust is designed to reduce backpressure for maximum power delivery.
Toyota’s GA-C platform with reinforced frame underpins the GR Corolla. The vehicle has a low center of gravity, and certain aerodynamic features including air vents supporting steering stability. On the inside, the model offers the newest touchscreen Toyota Audio Multimedia system.
Two trim levels will be available: Core (in 2022) and a limited-run Circuit Edition (in 2023). The first comes in black, white or Supersonic Red colors, has a color-keyed roof with a rear lip spoiler, GR-Four stamped side rockers, wide-fender flares, five fabric sport seats with a GR logo.
The second has GR-Four stamped side rockers and wide fenders, like the Core variant, but adds a forged carbon-fiber roof, a sporty rear spoiler, a vented bulge hood, and red-accented sport seats trimmed in Brin Naub suede, and a shift knob with Morizo signature. Exterior paint choices include Supersonic Red, Heavy Metal, and white as standard.
