The official website of Toyota USA announces a GR hot hatch is coming.

As they say on the site, “while GR Yaris isn’t coming to the U.S., perhaps it’s time the U.S. got a Toyota hot hatch to call its own.”

We are pretty sure it is about the Toyota GR Corolla, a turbocharged version for the 2021 model year. The car should be unveiled within the coming months and reach dealerships by the end of this year.

The Corolla is the best candidate in the United States to wear a GR badge. It is the sole conventional hatchback Toyota sells in this country, exclusive of the Prius hybrid hatch which seems unsuitable for the Gazoo Racing treatment.

Expect the GR Corolla will get the same powertrain and sports features as the GR Yaris (pictured).

Toyota Hatchback GR: what about the engine?

We mean a new 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine producing 261 metric horsepower / 192 kW and 265.5 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque with a six-speed manual transmission, a rally-derived GR-Four all-wheel-drive system, a track-proven suspension, performance tires.

The other newcomers from Toyota which are on the list of arrivals in the U.S. car market include the Prius 2020 Anniversary Edition, 2021 GR Supra, 2021 Tacoma / Tundra / 4 Runner Trail Special Edition, 2021 Tacoma / Tundra / Sequoia Nightshade Special Edition; the 2021 RAV4 Prime, 2021 Mirai, 2021 Avalon All-Wheel Drive; the 2019 Supra Xfinily Series Race Car and 2018 GR Supra Racing Concept.
