Skoda has already started running in the new generation Skoda Octavia. A test mule in dense disguise caught the eye of the ubiquitous spies: the next images were published by the Motor1.
The new car will be presented not earlier than 2020, but interest to it among automotive community is great, as the Octavia is the bestseller of the Czech brand. The changes are barely noticeable under the camouflage. In the photos we see the current model with a few tweaks.
A front radiator grille is set lower, as its top only slightly rises above the lower section of the headlights. The curved section above the grille may indicate larger opening. A sensor of some kind may be hidden under the tape on the passenger side.
The rear part of the mule, at first glance, is no different from the current model. The Octavia of the next generation will be built on Volkswagen’s MQB latest-version platform.
If more lightweight materials are used in the body’s structure, as for the new-generation VW Golf, it would help make the car cheaper. If only designers do not decide to make the next Octavia larger.
It’s too early to say now what the motor range will be. Since the Volkswagen Group moves away from diesel engines, we can expect they will not be offered for the new Skoda Octavia.
So, for example, the new Audi A1 Sportback has got no turbo diesel. The choice of engines for the current-generation Skoda Octavia is quite wide. For better fuel economy, the car maker is likely to offer hybrid powertrain options.
