The Herald publication has prepared its own version of the most economical vehicles for urban conditions. The best compact cars for driving on city roads are selected by several criteria: compactness, economy, accessibility and popularity (the position of the car in the world rating).
- Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta is among the TOP 20 most popular models in the world. By the end of 2017 it did enter the TOP 10. The manufacturer offers an efficient 1.0-liter petrol EcoBoost engine, which consumes only 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers in a mixed cycle. It is a reliable car with a beautiful design, which is liked by most fans of small cars.
- Volkswagen Polo
The Polo has always been popular among motorists. However, the new-generation hatchback can offer more economical version with a 1.2-liter petrol motor with fuel consumption of just 4.7 l/100 km. For those who want a smaller car, there is a variant of the Volkswagen UP, also of a hatchback body type.
- Kia Rio FL
We may say the Rio was created as an economical model for young drivers. Even in this segment, Kia engineers managed to achieve incredible figures – only 3.6/100 km in a mixed cycle on a 1.1-liter diesel engine. This is one of the best efficiency for modern cars – the Rio FL is among the ten most economical models in the world. Together with the fresh design this fact makes this car in-demand on the market.
- Toyota Aygo
We can’t say this model has a bright exterior. Frankly speaking, not everyone will like it. But despite its specific appearance the car has a real advantage – a 1.0-liter petrol engine with a consumption of 4.1 l/100 km in a mixed cycle. It makes the model one of the most successful for city streets. The Aygo tops the global rating of the most economical petrol cars.
- Peugeot 208
One more compact and economical car for cities. This is one of the smallest models in the Peugeot lineup, equipped with a 1.0-liter petrol motor consuming just 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers. A bit oldish design, something reminiscent of the ancient Ford Ka, but excellent economy, and also traditional for French bright interior.
