Mercedes-Benz showed the first image of the new-generation sedan body-type A-Class for global market. A special feature of the model is a record low drag coefficient of 0.22.
For the hatchback this figure is 0.25. To achieve good aerodynamics, Mercedes-Benz engineers used computer simulations, multiple calculation cycles, as well as natural wind tunnel tests at the Sindelfingen plant.
While building the A-Class sedan, the front area was significantly reduced. The bottom was completely closed. The joints of the body panels and head optics were consolidated.
Additional equipment of the new A-Class will be aerodynamic curtains behind the grille, front and rear spoilers optimized in terms of functionality, wheels and tires.
Sales of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will start late this year. The model will be assembled at the brand’s plants in Mexico and Germany.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan for the Chinese market with enlarged wheelbase debuted in April. The motor range includes a 1.33-liter V4 (136 and 163 hp), as well as a 2.0-liter 190-hp motor. The gearbox is a 7-speed double-clutch robotic one.
The list of the sedan’s equipment includes a digital instrument panel, MBUX multimedia system with voice control, navigation with augmented reality and 64 variants of the interior backlighting.
