After years of waiting, Hyundai has introduced its largest family SUV – the 2020 Hyundai Palisade, which will challenge to the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot and the Ford Explorer. The US car market will be the main for the model, but it should enter other markets too.
We expected the design of this eight-seater would be based on the HDC-2 Grandmaster concept. However, the newcomer looks quite original, though some elements resemble the Santa Fe.
There is an elegant front console and expensive Nappa leather trim inside. The Palisade has a heads-up display (HUD) that projects a virtual image of driving information onto the windshield, helping the driver to keep eyes on the road.
Huyndai offers a sophisticated Driver Talk in-car intercom system with rear seat conversation and sleep modes for the vehicle. You can also find wireless charging for gadgets and an Infinity audio system inside.
The Hyundai Palisade has reconfigurable rear cargo with an available power rear-folding, unfolding and reclining third-row seatback. The model is larger in every exterior dimension than the Santa Fe XL and the Toyota Highlander.
It has more interior first and second row legroom and more luggage space behind the third row than the Pilot, Pathfinder, and the Explorer. It offers a power liftgate to access the rear cargo area with ease.
The large SUV ‘keeps an eye’ on children and animals on the rear seats and reminds the driver of them while he or she leaving the vehicle.
The Palisade is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 motor with a capacity of 291 hp (355 Nm of torque) coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations are available.
The Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel-drive multi-mode system is optional. The driver-selectable modes are Normal, Sport and Smart. They provide confident control in all weather conditions. A newly-developed Snow Mode is available too.
The list of standard safety functions includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning and Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
The main rivals for the new Hyundai Palisade will be the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder.
