The BMW 8-Series Will Share The Engine With A New BMW 5-Series

The BMW 8-Serties will share the engine with a new 5-Series. BMW have decided to add some power to the updated BMW M550i xDrive model which should arrive in 2020.

If to look at the BMW 5-Series line-up, you can notice a fairly large power gap between the M550i xDrive version and the hot M5. In the first case, the car produces 455 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, while the sports M offers 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque.

The German automaker will consider the possibility of putting a 4.4-liter V8 engine on the M550i car. It was recently introduced on the M850i xDrive model.

The powertrain for the 5-Series can be upgraded to 523 hp. Naturally, increasing the power will make the M550i xDrive even faster, than the current model, which allows the car to reach 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h.

The new BMW engine allows to accelerate the M850i coupe to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and has the same electronic speed limiter at 250 km/h. Probably, the M550i xDrive can get similar characteristics by 2020.
