According to the sales results in Q1 2019, the Tesla Model 3 lifted to the fourth position in Europe in the ranking of most purchased luxury mid-size cars. The American EV lost only to the models of German carmakers.
We should emphasize the Tesla Model 3 comes the fourth not in the EV segment only, but in the overall standings.
In the first quarter of 2019, the Model 3 was bought by more than 18,000 Europeans. A year ago, the car was not even on sale on the continent.
Only the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series sit above Tesla’s electric car in the ranking. The C-Class stands alone with a score of 38,629 sales. The A4 and the BMW 3 Series go alongside – 27,465 and 26,165 cars, respectively.
Of course, the Tesla Model 3 is commercially successful. However, its rise in Europe and the 4th place in the class does not reflect the long-term potential of the electric vehicle. Today’s numbers show the car deliveries ordered by Europeans over the past few years.
The Model 3 is not produced in Europe. The number of registrations is likely to continue fluctuating strongly throughout the year. This is due to the fact that the deliveries of cars to customers depend on the arrival of ships in Europe.
