The refreshed Tesla Model S and Model X come with a heat pump. It serves to provide higher energy efficiency in electric vehicles in winter.
When the company launched the Model Y, it came with the heat pump – a new feature never seen in a Tesla vehicle before. Later the 2021 Tesla Model 3 received this component.
The heat pump replaced a resistive heater which gave a huge efficiency boost to cars in colder climates.
Elon Musk said that Tesla “introduced the heat pump to all of our vehicles”, though during Tesla’s Q4 2020 earnings call the heat pump was mentioned only for the 2021 Model 3.
Tesla conceived the heat pump for the Super Manifold (Octovalve). As in case with the Model 3, a frunk on new Model S and the Model X is apparently reduced to give space to this device.
Expect to hear the news from Tesla on this soon.
