At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the European version of the new-generation Suzuki Jimny has been presented. Like its predecessor, the small SUV will be offered on the market with no choice of engines.
Engine, transmission, drive
The only available engine for the 2019 Suzuki Jimny is a 102-hp aspirated gasoline unit. It is combined either with a five-speed manual transmission or with a four-speed automatic one. The all-wheel drive system (4 WD) is offered as standard.
With a view to off-road
The new Jimny inherited a body-on-frame layout. By its off-road performance, it is not inferior to its predecessor: high (210 mm) ground clearance, small overhangs, three-link special-tuned suspension. Generally speaking, the fourth-generation SUV has been developed with an eye on customers who are more interested in cross-country maneuverability than in driving comfort on the highway.
Jimny remains square
The 2019 Suzuki Jimny is designed in off-road square style. Like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class of the new generation, the most famous SUV of the Japanese brand remains quite recognizable.
The luggage space has grown by 53 liters and is 377 liters now. The cabin is Spartan styled. However, it didn’t prevent designers from installing a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth.
An automatic braking system, an oncoming lane mitigation and a rear cross traffic alert are offered for the first time to the Suzuki model.
The new Jimny will begin to enter the European markets next year, although the current-generation model will be released before April 2019.
There is still no information about the pricing. The new model is expected to cost a bit more than the outgoing one, that is, over 16,000 dollars.
