Subaru Outback Reveals a New Look and Tech Updates at NY Auto Show

The 2023 Subaru Outback is debuting at the 2022 New York International Auto Show these days.

The refreshed Subaru Outback SUV got exterior styling updates, and new in-vehicle and safety technologies; the Onyx Edition is available with two engine options for the 2023MY. The motor show in New York is the place where the newcomer is being presented in all its glory. 

So, what has changed compared to the previous Outback?

The new  Outback Onyx Edition comes with Subaru Boxer 4-cylinders: a naturally aspirated 2.5L 182-hp (176 lb-ft) engine or a 2.4-liter turbocharged one making 260-hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It has a black-finish exterior and gray two-tone interior, 18-inch alloy wheels, StarTex seats, a full-size spare tire, a hands-free power gate, Dual-Mode X-MODE, and a front view monitor.

On the exterior side, changes include revised headlamps and fog lights, a new front fascia with a more pronounced grille, protective expanded wheel arch cladding, and a stronger front bumper cover.

Technological updates include the addition of a new Wide-Angle Mono Camera that expands the field of view, enhanced, newer EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with several new features, like Automatic Emergency Steering, a full LCD Smart Rear-View Mirror with Homelink, compass, and auto-dimming (on the Touring grade). The Multimedia system is also updated.

The 2023 Subaru Outback will be available at dealers this fall in 6 trim levels + XT versions: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

Despite the fact U.S. sales of the Subaru Outback dropped in Q1 2022 compared to the 1st quarter of last year (32,973 units vs 41,503 units), the model continues to be the brand’s top seller, It took the second place among Subaru vehicles by sales from January to March 2022 ( the CrossTrek was 1st).
