The 2020 Subaru Legacy is one of the brightest premieres at the auto show in Chicago (Feb 7-18, 2019). It considerably charged inside compared with its previous generation.
The seventh-generation Legacy moved to the Subaru Global Platform, which almost the entire brand’s lineup is built on: Impreza, Forester, XV, Ascent. Exterior changes are quite neat. Subaru has never modified its models radically, what is appreciated by the brand enthusiasts.
Interior updates are more significant. It is, first of all, about a huge vertical multimedia touchscreen available for high-end versions. The base car got the familiar 7-inch display. The materials of better quality are used for trim, including the optional Nappa leather upholstery.
The sedan is 4,840 mm long, the wheelbase is 2,750 mm. The company says the torsional rigidity of the body increased by 70%, and the trunk’s space is up to 428 liters now.
A four-cylinder 2.4-liter 264-hp turbo engine from Subaru Ascent (376 Nm) and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated one from the Subaru Forester (185 hp, 239 Nm) are the power units available. With the first the new Subaru Legacy accelerates to 97 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Both motors are coupled with Lineatronic CVT.
The Lane Assist and the Driver Fatigue Monitoring System are responsible for active safety among other useful functions. A wide angle front camera displays the image on the main screen.
American dealers will get cars this fall. The current model costs from $22,545 (US price). European buyers will have to wait longer for the Subaru Legacy arrival.
