A spotted Mercedes-Benz GLB model was spied again during tests at the Nurburgring. The SUV will be positioned between the sports GLA and the larger GLC in the brand’s line-up.
The standard GLB will be a five-seater. A seven-seat version will be optional. Due to its boxy-shaped body the upcoming model was called a ‘mini G-Class’, but by its overall look it is rather a shrunken GLS.
The Mercedes GLB is based on the MFA2 platform, like the A-Class hatchback, and will share the interior styling and layout with it. In particular, it is expected to have the same instrument cluster and the new MBUX infotainment system .
The motors are also taken from the A-Class. They will be diesel and petrol in Europe. Petrol engines and an electrified version will be offered for the US market. Among the motors we can expect a 1.33-liter 134- and 161-horsepower ones, as well as a 2.0-liter 188-hp engine.
Later two AMG variants will join the model’s line-up – the GLB 35 and GLB 45. Mercedes-Benz will produce its GLB at the Daimler-Nissan’s plant in Mexicо, where the A-Class sedan (US) is also built.
The new car will debut in the end of 2018 and goes on sale next year.
