Skoda will market its third crossover for Europe. A small Kamiq SUV joins the 7-seat Kodiaq and compact Karoq. The new model will be officially presented early spring at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Skoda Kamiq is already sold in China. The company introduced it on April 23, 2018, first at the Czech Embassy, and then at the Beijing Auto Show. Even then it was clear that the European version would not be long in coming. So it happened.
Like the more dimensional brothers, the Kamiq’s exterior is made in the brand’s modern style. The crossover is really small – 4,390 / 1,781 / 1,593 mm. This is the size of the Chinese version, but, apparently, the European one will be about the same.
Only one engine is offered for the Chinese market – an all-new gasoline 110-hp unit with 150Nm (111lbft) of torque mated with automatic transmission.
The automaker has not reported yet about the powertrains for Europe. The Kamiq will receive new electronic assistants with numerous functions of Simply Clever. We hope all will be detailed in Geneva.
The new crossover will enter the most dense and fast-growing segment of the automotive market in Europe – a niche of subcompact SUVs. Here it will meet not only the French Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008, but the new Volkswagen T-Cross and Nissan Juke waiting for a change of generations, the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Stonic and others as well.
The world premiere of the Skoda Kamiq will be held at the Geneva Motor Show from March 5 to 17, 2019.
