Skoda Gives an Unusual Name to its New Electric SUV

Skoda’s second electric car after the Citigo-e iV and the first one built on VW’s new MEB platform gets the name: “Enyaq”.

The Czech automaker has revealed this name in the form of an image. It shows the lettering that will appear on the vehicle’s rear, Auto Express informs.

The Skoda Enyaq shares its architecture with the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback, the first representative of the new all-electric ID family.

As for the Enyaq name itself, it derives from Irish ‘Enya’ – a name originated from the Galic word ‘eithne’ that means ‘essence, spirit or principle’. The Enyaq establishes Skoda’s new naming conception, when its electric models take names starting with ‘E’.

At the same time, a ‘Q’ in the end ties the new car with the SUV range of the brand, which includes the Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq.

For now we don’t know which will be the design and mechanical part of the new electric SUV, and whether it will have two electric motors on each axle and AWD like the Skoda Vision iV concept show a year ago at Geneva.

It is clear the Enyaq is the next step in the carmaker’s plan to offer 10 electric models by the end of 2022. By 2025, Skoda expects that electrified vehicles will constitute 25% of its sales.
