Saudi Arabia Starts Construction of a Zero-Carbon City In Q1 2021

A zero-carbon city called “The Line” will appear at NEOM. The city will give a home to one million residents. The project will create 380,000 jobs.

Yesterday Saudi Arabia’s crown prince unveiled his plans to build that city extending over 105 miles (170 km), with the $500 billion support by the Saudi government.

Prince Mohammed said on television,

Why should we sacrifice nature for the sake of development? We need to transform the concept of a conventional city into that of a futuristic one.

NEOM, announced in 2017, is a 10,230 mi2 (26,500 km2) high-tech development on the Red Sea. It consists of several zones – industrial and logistics areas. They plan to complete this project in 2025.

The construction of the “The Line” is reported to start in the first quarter of this year. The city is expected to contribute $48 billion to the kingdom’s gross domestic product.
