Rivian will expand its portfolio by adding more vehicles.
This is about the R2 and R3 series models which are cheaper, adventure-type trucks and SUVs of different sizes to appear over the next 5 years. They should join the existing range of Rivian’s three key electric vehicles.
The company launches that trio on the market in the second half of 2021. The R1T five-passenger full-size electric pickup comes in June, followed by the R1S three-row electric SUV in August.
The both are nicely loaded with driver-assist and connectivity tech, offer over-the-air updates. An online configurator went live in November 2020. The Launch Editions were sold out quickly.
The third product is the Rivian Prime large delivery van developed specifically for Amazon, with a driving range of 150 miles and three battery sizes (only one is available at launch).
A small fleet of Prime vans is currently on the road for testing and collecting customer feedbacks. A large fleet is expected in late fall.
Rivian plans to place Prime vans in 15 major markets in 2021. The goal is to get at least 10,000 units on the road next year.
The whole order of Amazon is 100,000 Rivian vans. Amazon has been building charging stations on its properties.
Rivian also wants to develop the Rivian Adventure Network of chargers. In the coming months, exact locations will become public. There will be hundreds of chargers eventually, according to Rivian’s plan.
