The manufacturer has released a video of the upcoming Rivian R1T electric pickup during road tests in the desert.
In the film, the all-wheel-drive vehicle is demonstrating its off-road capability. Rivian took a camouflaged prototype to the Arizona desert.
The R1T has an electric motor on each axle. It offers three battery choices: 105, 135, 180 kWh, and 400 miles of driving range. The 135.0-kWh model is the fastest one, with 754 hp and a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.0 seconds.
With the length of 215.6”, by its dimensions the crew-cab-only R1T sits between mid-size pickups like the Ford Ranger and full-size ones such as the Ram 1500.
The model features a standard adjustable air suspension that adjusts the ground clearance from 8” to 14”.
This allows the R1T to do so-called Tank Turn, when electric motors rotate the left wheels in the opposite direction of the right ones to spin the vehicle on its axis.
The Rivian R1T is set to go into production next year. The est. prices will be $70,500, $75,500 and $80,500 depending on the battery capacity.
