First production Rivian R1Ts assembled in Illinois

Mass production on the Rivian R1T all-electric pickup has officially started this month. This means the model will reach customers earlier than rivals.

The first Rivian R1T vehicles have been rolling off the assembly line at the plant in Normal, Illinois, while other electric pickups, the R1T’s competitors, are currently in the works. So, it is Rivian that opens an era of fully electric pickup trucks on the market.

On its way to consumers, The R1T outpaces the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, Lordstown Endurance, Chevrolet Silverado EV.

EPA has estimated the Rivian R1T driving range at 314 miles. In January 2022, the manufacturer will offer a version with a larger driving range – over 400 miles. A 250-mile-plus variant will be available at a later time. The pickup’s EPA-rated miles per gallon equivalent figures are 74 city, 66 highway, 70 combined.

The Rivian R1R comes with a quad-motor powertrain, takes 3.0 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60 mph, boasts a wading depth of 3+ feet, and can tow up to 11,000 pounds.

The model’s starting price is $67,500. Customer deliveries of the Rivian R1T Launch Edition should complete by next spring. Delivery timing will be informed to order holders by the end of this fall.
