Kia is testing a production version of the Kia SP Concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 in New Delhi a year ago.
This small crossover sits below the Kia Sportage in the brand’s lineup and, as far as we know, will share the platform with a new Hyundai Creta.
Car paparazzi’s cameras captured a test car somewhere beyond the Arctic Circle. The model will be called the ‘Kia Tusker’ (albeit this name is not still confirmed) and enter several large markets, including the USA, Australia, India, South Korea.
The production car looks very close to the SP concept (pictured above), while its front facia differs. Kia will probably offer a 1.4-liter gas turbo motor or a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated one for the model depending on the market. We do not expect the all-wheel drive, but an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is quite possible.
The Kia Tusker will be produced at the Indian and Korean plants of the brand. When it arrives, the vehicle will be a good alternative to the parent Hyundai Kona, as well as the Mitsubishi ASX (Outlander Sport) or the Mazda CX-3.
The Tusker goes on sale in the 2nd half of 2019: supposedly in August in India, In September or October in Australia. It may even debut at the upcoming 2019 New York International Auto Show in April.
Let’s wait and see.
