The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has many goodies, and one of them is its industry-largest Mega Power Frunk.
The all-new, fully electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has a unique feature – a front trunk or ‘frunk’ which is the largest in the truck industry, with 14.1 cubic feet (400 l) cargo space and 400 pounds of max payload capacity. The Mega Power Frunk has other advantages too.
This specific frunk began life as a simple cardboard box. A small group of Ford’s young designers showed a prototype made of cardboard using scissors and hot glue to real Ford truck and fleet customers. They wanted to find out how pickup owners could use such a feature.
That idea resulted in the F-150 Lightning’s Mega Power Frunk: an asymmetrical compartment for two golf bags, accessible, drainable, water-resistant and cleanable, which is easy to open and close. There are six different ways for frunk opening including through the phone on the FordPass app and an integrated push-button on the grille.
Moreover, Ford’s team of engineers installed truck bed lamps in the frunk hood. The lamps provide a lighting source on the inner side of the hood. 4 electrical outlets and 2 USB chargers are added as well. 2.4 kW power is available for TVs, laptops, speakers, power tools, other devices.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is already popular judging by the number of reservation holders, though it is physically inaccessible to customers so far. The pickup will be available starting from the spring of 2022.
