At the German Car of the Year / GCOTY ceremony in Germany, the first prize went to the Porsche Taycan electric car. It takes away the laurels from last year’s winner, the Jaguar I-Pace.
The Porsche Taycan is recognized the Car of the Year 2020. 35 nominees were fighting for the award. Five brands reached the final: BMW, Mazda, Opel, Peugeot and Porsche.
A jury of German automotive journalists selected the winner in terms of performance, innovation and market relevance.
At the Bilster Berg Drive Resort, the nominated vehicles underwent road tests too.
The jury first of all noted the Porsche Taycan’s outstanding design, chassis and engine performance. In addition, this electric car has an edge over others in terms of eco-friendliness.
It has twice the voltage of the on-board network (800 V instead of the usual 400 V). The battery can be fast charged from a high-power DC source in 5 minutes, that is enough for 62 miles (100 km) of range.
The Porsche Taycan debuted on September 4, 2019 and has already collected more than twenty thousand reservations in many countries.
We can add that the Taycan 4S version with two battery variants and a driving range of up to 288 miles (463 km) according to WLTP has been recently introduced.
