The 2019 Volvo V60 Cross Country wagon has joined the brand’s off-road lineup. This is an all-new development, the third in the 60th family after the S60 sedan and the regular V60.
The V60 Cross Country has a four-wheel drive in standard. Its ground clearance is 75 mm more than the base V60’s.
The standard equipment also includes a hill descent control system, electronic stability control, angular traction control and a special off-road driving mode.
The Pilot Assist system helps the driver to control, accelerate and brake the car on roads with good road markings at speeds up to 130 km/h. This is, in a way, the autopilot’s predecessor.
The list of standard active safety systems includes oncoming lane exit warning, rear cross traffic alert (convenient when leaving the parking lot).
The Volvo Cars Sensus Connect information system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.
Initially, the new Volvo V60 Cross Country will be available with petrol T5 and diesel D4 AWD engines.
Somewhat later, mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid modifications will enter the market.
Hyundai has introduced a new hot modification – the 2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N. The rival for the Skoda Octavia RS will debut in a few days at the Paris Motor Show.
The N variant got the same powertrain as a performance i30 hatchback. Under the hood there is a 2.0-liter petrol turbocharged V4, which produces 250 hp and 353 Nm of torque (378 Nm in overboost mode).
The motor is mated with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission with an automatic throttling function when switched “down”.
A sports Performance Package is offered for the car to increase output to 275 hp, as well as an electronic-controlled limited slip differential, an active exhaust system, more powerful brakes and 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.
The standard Hyundai i30 Fastback N accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds (6.1 seconds with sports package). The top speed is 250 km/h.
The performance fastback has five modes of control electronics, a fully disconnected stabilization system and a multimedia system that can display power, torque, boost pressure, longitudinal and lateral acceleration on the screen in real time.
The i30 N hatch accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds. It made its debut last year. Same time Hyundai announced that future hot models would be all-wheel drive. Testing of such cars prototypes has already started.
German experts consider the Audi RS6 plus and BMW M5 E39 to be the most profitable used car to date.
Of course, it is not only about reliability and good technical condition of the cars. True, it’s rather difficult to find a vehicle that will rise in price in the future, especially if you plan to use it in your everyday life.
Nevertheless, in the opinion of AutoBild, the Audi RS6 plus and BMW M5 E39 are the best used cars to choose for today, if you want to gain.
Audi RS6 plus
Audi introduced the RS6 plus (pictured above) in 2004. The company released it in limited quantity of 999 units.
The car is available only wagon body styled. A 4.2-liter V8 engine develops 480 hp and allows speeding up to a top limit of 280 km/h. Nevertheless, the car is able to exceed 300 km/h.
The main feature of the Audi RS6 plus is a good combination of high dynamic performance and practicality (large trunk and spacious interior with heated seats).
It is worth inspecting the car carefully when buying: the previous owner did most likely to assess the wagon’s extraordinary potential. A car in good condition will be a good investment, because since 2015 prices for the RS6 plus have increased by almost 40% and now reach an average of €41,000.
BMW M5 E39
Just like Audi, BMW offered its fastest car in a single body style – sedan. A wagon existed as a prototype never put to mass production. The third-generation BMW M5 was introduced in 1997 and was liked for its restrained aggression.
The exterior almost did not hint at the 5.0-liter 400-hp V8, which provided acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
The main goal of the M-Technik engineering department was to create a car both good for racing and a family trip. It has a comfortable five-seat leather-trimmed cabin with a cruise control. The car is owned by more than 20,000 lucky men.
In recent years, the prices for the BMW M5 E39 have raised an average of €10,000 and now reach €30,000.
Brabus GmbH, a famous high-performance aftermarket tuning company, has made the most powerful version of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class – Brabus 700 Widestar. The photos and a video are now available.
The off-road vehicle accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and is based on a top Mercedes-AMG G63.
The capacity of a 4.0-liter eight-cylinder twin-turbo engine is increased to 700 liters, its torque grew to max 950 Nm. The top speed is 240 km/h.
The model’s exhaust system has become ‘louder’.
The Brabus 700 Widestar features a convex hood, extended wings and enlarged air intakes in the front bumper, as well as 23-inch alloy wheels, a spoiler and additional optics on the roof.
In the interior there are carbon and Alkantara along with leather and wood.
This is not the first version of the new Mercedes G-Class from Brabus: a 500-hp G500-based modification was shown before.
Three models of Hyundai Motor have won the International Design Excellence Award (IDEA 2018). The Kona, NEXO and the fourth-generation Santa Fe are silver winners in the Vehicle Design nomination.
The most prestigious and strict design competition
The Industrial Designers Society of America holds the IDEA for the 38th consecutive year. This contest is, in a way, the standard of design.
Contestants are awarded in 20 categories, including “Children’s Toys”, “Medicine and Health”, “Packaging”, “Commerce and Industry”, etc. There is also a nomination “Cars and transport”. This is where our South Korean models excelled.
What are Hyundai crossovers liked for?
The smallest Kona crossover (pictured above) has been recently introduced in the market and received a lot of advances. In particular, experts and consumers like its design. The IDEA Design Award is the third for the exterior in 2018.
The jury have noted the Composite Light two-tier optics and the unique armor-styled bumper, which creates a sense of confidence. The Kona really looks stylish and modern, so such a high evaluation of designers is not unexpected.
The hydrogen-powered Nexo features the futuristic design, which embodies the ecological orientation of the model. The main emphasis is minimalism and cleanliness of lines. Same clean as water, which is the only emission of this hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
This is the second design award the Nexo has won this year. It also has the Red Dot Design award.
As for the latest Hyundai Santa Fe, its impressive two-tier optics (Composite Light) combined with a cascade grille have attracted the jury’s attention too. The crossover looks solid and dynamic.
True progress in the Hyundai cars design
Hyundai constantly strives for progress.This applies both to the technical component and the appearance. The brand design improves every year. Let’s remember the first generation Sonata or Accent in the 1980-90s. Nothing extraordinary…
However, the models of the 2000s acquired a personal style. The first-generation i30, Tucson, Santa Fe had quite recognizable Hyundai design.
The exterior of the latest models of the brand is impressive and not inferior to Japanese, American or European cars.
Mercedes-AMG has officially denied development of the X-Class sports modification, as AMG spirit does not match the Japanese-French origin of this pickup truck.
In June 2018, the company announced the possibility of creating a more powerful version. Now we know that no V8 engine should be expected for the model. The X-Class AMG won’t appear. The hottest variant for the X-Class will be the existing diesel V6.
Mercedes-AMG boss explained that the reasons for rejection of the AMG version were more ideological than technical.
Those who want to own a potent Mercedes pickup truck will have to buy the X350d 4Matic modification with a 3.0-liter 255-hp 6-cylinder diesel engine.
It may be good for Europe and Australia, but not for America, where model are equipped with V8. So, the X-Class will not go on sale in the USA.
If standard power is not enough, Brabus tuning programs are available for a 2.3-liter engine (adding of 21 hp). The V6 motor is also being upgraded.
Skoda has revealed the interior of the Kodiaq performance RS modification. The public premiere will be held in a week at the Paris Motor Show.
The crossover is trimmed with Alcantara, carbon and plastic inside. It comes with a multifunctional steering wheel with RS logo, a new dashboard, stainless steel pedals and sports seats.
The RS version differs from the regular model by more aggressive front part of the body, reinforced front pillars, all-LED headlights and 20-inch alloy wheels.
The Skoda Kodiaq RS got the most powerful diesel engine ever mounted in Skoda vehicles. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder 240-hp turbo motor providing 500 Nm of torque and paired with a double-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG) and four-wheel drive.
The Kodiaq RS will be the first model of the brand with Dynamic Sound Boost.
In the summer of 2018, camouflaged Skoda Kodiaq RS set the North Loop record at the Nürburgring. It ran 20.8 km in 9 minutes and 29.84 seconds.
The interior of the production version of the seven-seat BMW X7 SUV has been unveiled on spy photos. It is designed in style of already presented 2017 iPerformance Concept.
The cabin features the new BMW 8-Series-styled dashboard, a large iDrive touch screen similar to that in the 5-Series sedan. The materials of interior decor are leather, wood and Alcantara.
Unlike smaller X5 and X6, the X7 has three rows of seats for six people.
This large SUV is built on the CLAR platform used before in the new 7-Series flagship sedan. The X7 shares diesel and petrol engines with the latter, including the most powerful in the V12 lineup. There will be a hybrid modification with xDrive40e producing 313 hp.
The model will debut in Los Angeles in November 2018 and then go on sale. It will be a rival for the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Land Rover Range Rover, Audi Q7 and the Cadillac Escalade.
The key markets for the X7 will be the USA, China and the Middle East.
The results of the 2018 Driver Power satisfaction survey have become known, according to which the TOP 10 best SUVs are called.
The data are based on opinion of 80,000 British car owners about the car they bought in the last 12 months, as well as car manufacturer, dealer, insurance company or car breakdown cover provider.
The participants of the survey have rated their cars across a range of categories.
Reliability is the most important of them. Auto Express analyzed the results and totaled the list of the ten most reliable SUVs 2018:

The Suzuki Jimny is a unique model. First it was introduced in 1970. Only three generations were released until 2018, with the latest of them produced for 20 years!
Throughout its history, the Suzuki Jimny has been a true uncompromising off roader, a compact body-on-frame vehicle with solid axles and a transfer case. Recently the new fourth-generation model has arrived and is worth paying attention to.
Creating a new Jimny, Suzuki did not yield to the temptation to increase its size. The wheelbase remained unchanged (2,250 mm), but the new Jimny became even more compact.
The length decreased by 50 mm (3,645 mm) due to less deep bumpers and smaller body overhangs The Jimny is 45 mm wider (1,645 mm) and 50 mm higher (1,720 mm). These minimal modifications made the baby SUV a little more spacious in the cabin. The new vehicle is designed in the second-generation model style (known as the Suzuki Samurai in some markets).
Produced since 1998, the third-generation Jimny had no modern interior even after upgrades. It missed a climate control, a multimedia system with a color screen, a mirror in the sun visor. There were also unusual decisions, such as simultaneous heating of front chairs by means of a single button.
The interior of the new Suzuki Jimny is up-to-date: a handy climate control, a touchscreen multimedia, more comfortable front seats with better developed lateral support and removable covers. Seat heating is switched on separately now, and each sun visor received a mirror.
The trunk has become smaller – 85 liters. For comparison: the third-generation car had a 113-liters trunk. But it is 377 liters now with the rear seats folded (grew by 53 liters). With folded seat backs, a flat cargo area becomes available.
Suzuki Jimny off the road
The philosophy of the model remains unchanged: the Jimny has become more all-terrain!
It got a new reinforced frame, which is body-colored and painted with anti-corrosion paint. Axles and running gear elements are also reinforced.
This is still a body-on-frame vehicle, with rigid connection of the front axle without a central differential, like that of the predecessors. You can use all-wheel drive only off road and on a slippery surface. There is still no rear differential lock. The function of rear and front locks is performed by electronics which brakes the hanging wheel, thus the torque is transmitted to the wheel which is in contact with the road.
The fourth Jimny still has a transfer case, but with changed control. Now the downshift is switched by the lever like of the first Jimnies, that is more reliable.
One of the most important features for off-road vehicles is ground clearance. The previous generation model had the scarce 190-mm clearance. The clearance of the latest Jimny is increased to 210 mm, that is better for a standard off roader. The wheels are the same 15-inch ones, but instead of 205/70 tires they use 195/80 with the outer radius enlarged by 24 mm.
Suzuki engineers could preserve the model’s high geometric patency. The approach angle of the third-generation vehicle is 34 degrees, on the new Jimny it is 37 degrees. The departure angles are 46 and 49 degrees respectively. The track increased by 45 mm.
One of the major changes is a new engine. It remains petrol aspirated, but is more powerful and economical. It is the 1.5-liter 102-hp one (+17 hp) with 130 Nm of torque (110 Nm before). The SUV has become considerably faster, and still likes revolves. With a quiet ride in a mixed cycle, the fuel consumption is just 6 liters per 100 km. With an active drive the consumption is below 9 l/100 km.
The suspension has become softer, but with the active drive there are rolls when cornering. Thanks to the use of electric power steering and a steering damper, the new Jimny is much better controlled. It misses only the sharpness of the steering wheel.
