Next Year A BlackFly Flying Car Will Be Brought To Market

A Silicon Valley company called Opener developed a BlackFly flying car. It is the electric vehicle for personal aviation priced like a SUV.

Some companies currently work on creation of flying cars, among which is Uber. UberAir taxis will take passengers from rooftop stops across city. The latest development is the BlackFly, the product of 9 year work.

It is powered by 9 propellers attached to 2 winglike pylons, with 4 propellers fitted on each. The pylons take the place of front and rear axis. The vehicle takes off vertically. The concept looks like a scaled-up drone. Many test flight were done, both with a pilot on board and unmanned.

The BlackFly can pass up to 40 km at a speed of 100 km/h. It is easy to use and does not require a pilot’s license. When it goes on sale, it will cost as a SUV, the developers say, though they don’t precise what SUV.

Customers will be asked to complete a familiarization course and a standard written examination for FAA Private Pilot licenses. The BlackFly will be available on sale next year, its producer believes.
