Rumors say the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class in its sportiest AMG S63 guise will come exclusively as a plug-in hybrid.
It was over 3 years ago, when Mercedes-AMG unveiled the GT Concept PHEV with 805 hp (600 kW) of combined output. Later the show car evolved into derivatives. One of them, as we’ve recently found out, is the forthcoming S63.
This hottest version will bear the Mercedes-AMG S63 EQ Performance 4Matic+ name. It will boast a 603-hp internal combustion engine in pair with a 201-hp electric motor, and the total output of almost 805 hp.
Interestingly, the Mercedes-AMG does not plan to offer the conventional powertrain for the new S-Class. The S63 Sedan will be the only AMG model of the next S-Class, and it comes only in the plug-in hybrid variant.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Convertible, as well as their S63 and S65 derivatives will be phased out.
The premiere of the standard S-Class will take place on September 2, 2020. Expect the S63 debuts in 2021, and reaches dealerships next fall.
