Mazda plans to launch the new-generation Mazda6 midsize sedan in 2022.

This iteration will be more upscale and combine the traits of a luxury model with the price of the mass market.

The car will ride on a new longitudinal-engine platform with rear-wheel drive. It incorporates Mazda’s Skyactiv-X inline-six gasoline engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a total output of near 350 hp.

As for the next Mazda6’s appearance, it will be similar to the Vision Coupe Concept’s, which made its debut at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show.

That concept features a subtle and streamlined shape, softened lines, a long hood, and a short deck (pictured above).

The current 2020 Mazda6 ranks near the top of the midsize car class, largely due to its dynamic performance and premium cabin. It costs between $24,100-35,400 in the USA, from €28,990 in Germany, £24,725 in the UK.

Expect the new Mazda6 will enter the market by the end of 2022.
