The seventh, S650-generation next Ford Mustang will arrive as a 2023 model with many changes, possibly including all-wheel-drive and hybrid options.

The 2022 model year is the last for the current Mustang. The refreshed 2022 model will go on sale in the 1st quarter of next year, while the new-generation Ford Mustang should be launched for the 2023MY.

Various automotive sources monitor the development of the next Ford Mustang. In particular, the latest press reports refer to Ford’ engineer Pedro Maradei who worked on the current S550 Mustang Program and on the new-gen S650 Ford Mustang, judging by his LinkedIn profile.

This man mentions he worked on “23MY Mustang 2.3L I4 Hybrid and 5.0L V8 Hybrid Pre-PS low and high-pressure package analysis”. This is an indirect confirmation that the 2023 Ford Mustang will be available with hybrid versions of Ford’s engines – a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost and a 5.0-liter 8-cylinder Coyote.

Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission which already utilizes hybrid technology in the Ford F-150 when it pairs the 3.5L PowerBoost V6.

The use of a hybrid system in the Ford Mustang, like in the case with the F-150, could give a power boost and more efficiency, especially considering that the company is heading towards full electrification of its model range.

Besides, rumors say that a pure electric 2-door Ford Mustang should go into production in December 2028. So, the upcoming S650-gen model may well be the last internal-combustion-engine Mustang.
