New Opel Corsa Launched Into Production in Zaragoza

Series production of the sixth-generation Opel Corsa started on October 7, 2019 at Groupe PSA’s plant in Spanish Zaragoza.

A launch ceremony took place with participation of King Felipe VI of Spain, Carlos Tavares and Michael Lohscheller, PSA’s and Opel’s bosses, invited guests and plant workers.

The best-selling Opel Corsa in its new iteration becomes much lighter: the lightest Corsa is below 1,000 kg. The car aerodynamics is the best in class now, its engines are more efficient than before.

For example, a base 1.2-liter 55-kW (75-hp) engine of the 2020 Corsa consumes 57 mpg (4.1 l/100km) combined, NEDC-rated. The previous model fuel comsumption was 40-42 mpg (5.9-5.6 l/100km). The average ratio NEDC/EPA is approx. 1.428.

The facility in Zaragoza will be also a production site for the first Europe-made pure electric Opelthe Corsa-e. The first vehicles will roll off the assembly line early next year.

With the arrival of the Opel Corsa-e, the company enters a new electric era in its history. Its power output is 136 hp (100 kW), the driving range is 205 miles (330 km).
