Representatives from the company’s top management have presented the innovations of the top-of-the-range S-Class in detail.
The model becomes much more intelligent and takes the driving experience to a new level. The focus now is on the individual.
The 2021 S-Class’s new-generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, for example, provides the occupants with new interaction and personalization possibilities.
More than ever before, the interior fulfills the claim of a “third place” – a private refuge between home and work.
The next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class sets new standards of safety. In particular, it is the first series passenger car with rear-seat airbags for rear passenger protection in the event of a frontal collision.
It is the first production vehicle to be built at the “Factory 56”. This most innovative car facility of the future has opened on the same day as the world premiere.
The base S500 version gets a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an integrated starter-generator and EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid system like on other modern Mercedes vehicles.
The powertrain produces 429 hp (67 hp more than before) and 384 lb-ft (+5 lb-ft). Power is delivered to all 4 wheels. The EQ Boost offers additional 184 lb-ft and 21 hp.
The upper S580 version gets Mercedes’s twin-turbo 469-hp (516 lb-ft) V8 (plus 6 hp).
The both are mated to the same 9-speed automatic transmission. The electronically limited top speed is 130 mph. There are five different drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual.
