A four-door premium Genesis G80 sedan of the next generation will debut in 2019. According to preliminary data, the model will be built on a new platform. Photos of the camouflaged Genesis G80 were published on Korean forum Bobaedream.
The local media report the second-generation sedan will go on sale next year. Judging by the pictures, the car will have new lights and a radiator grille with cells instead of horizontal stripes.A rear numberplate will move from the trunk lid to the bumper. No information about the motor range is available now.
The current Genesis G80 is a restyled version of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis sedan. Its length is 4,990 mm, the width is 1,890 mm, the height is 1,480 mm and the wheelbase is 3,010 mm.
Depending on the market, the engine line-up includes petrol turbo V4 2.0 T-GDI (245 hp) and V6 3.3 T-GDI (370 hp), as well as aspirated V6 3.3 GDI (282 hp),V6 3.8 GDI (315 hp) and V8 5.0 GDI (420 hp).
In Korea the sedan is also offered with a turbo diesel 2.2D with 202 hp inherited from the younger Genesis G70. The drive, like for all brand’s models, is a rear or full HTRAC.
Genesis models are presently sold in the USA, South Korea, Russia and the Middle East. The brand is expected to market in Europe in 2020, including the new-bodied G80.
The main rivals of the G80 are considered to be the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. But despite the more attractive price list, Genesis is not able to overtake the Germans for now.
Genesis is known to prepare one more model to debut – a restyled flagship G90 sedan to arrive till the end of this year.
